{October 30, 2009}   Letter to a woman

Dear woman driver.

I would appreciate it if you can keep to following rules while driving :

  • If you have a luxury German car, drive like you  own a luxury German car.  Don’t drive like a girl.
  • Don’t do your makeup in the car.  I know women can multi-task, but lady, YOU can’t.  it is a car, not your bedroom
  • If you overtake another car/truck/vehicle, overtake it like you mean it.  Don’t hesitate,  just do it.
  • If you are too scared to drive fast, stay in the proper lane.  Don’t overtake.  STAY IN YOUR LANE!!
  • If you do decide to overtake, use your indicators!!! they are there for a reason.
  • Don’t hit the brakes everytime something happens next to you, in front of you, behind you, in the field next to the road etc etc.  You get the point.  Brake only when you need to.
  • And last, but not least, if you see me behind you, flashing my lights, get out the way.  You are too slow!!

Regards

Me

{October 22, 2009}   Question time

I am pretty active on the internet, I have this blog, Facebook, twitter, flickr, IM etc.   I don’t mind when people read what I write, or look at the photos I post (when I do).  I use my real name in my blog and everywhere else.

The one thing I don’t do, and won’t ever do, is post photos of myself, or friend/family online.

I have a problem though.  I have family who do just that.  They post photos on facebook, even though I asked them not to take the photos in the first place.

How does one approach this with them, without hurting their feelings ??

{October 16, 2009}   8 years and counting

8 Years ago, today, I started packing for what I thought would be a short-lived adventure.  Boy, was I wrong.

A lot has happened..

I moved around, A LOT.  a lot more than the average dutchman.  they tend to stick to one place.
I had my share of jobs.  3 different employers in 8 years.  not bad I think
I had a few breakups, had my  heart broken once, broke someone else’s heart, and  found the love of my life.  Him-who-makes-sense-of-my-life.  there is no other way to describe him. *

the last 8 years has taken me to places I have never imagined possible.  I never, not even in my wildest dreams, imagined that I would be able to spend a weekend in Paris, or New York.  Just because I wanted to.  To step onto a plane, and spend a week on the French Riviera.  Walk along Loch Ness, see the Leaning tower of Pisa.  Come face to face with the Mona Lisa.  See the Blue Mosque.

the last 8 years gave me a life I saw on TV, in movies, read about in books.  The life meant for others, never for me.  and yet, here I am.  Living that life.  Enjoying everything it brings me.

I am grateful.

* note to swisstwist: yes, I am a girly-girl, with feelings ;)
